Ophelia: Chris Claudius: Taylor Polonius: Emily Gertrude: Anna R and G: Nicole Ghost: Taylor Horatio: Taylor Player: Chris Dumb Show Players: Margaret and Cole Scene 1 – C: Yo yo yo wasssup R and G, waddup with hammy lately? R&G: we don’t know homie, he won’t answer our calls Gr: That’s messed up yo R&G: Yea it is, he used to be so chill but now hes wack (R&G leave) C: let’s get all up in hammys business and spy on him and Ophelia P: That’s a great idea dog G: I hope you is why hammy is acting all cray cray O: same P: Ophelia go give these letters to him and we will watch from afar. Quick I hear him coming let’s leave! (G, P, C, O leave) H: To be, or not to be- that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them. To die- to sleep- No more; and by a sleep to say we end The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to. 'Tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish'd. To die- to sleep. To sleep- perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub! For in that sleep of death what dreams may come When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause. There's the respect That makes calamity of so long life. For who would bear the whips and scorns of time, Th' oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely, The pangs of despis'd love, the law's delay, The insolence of office, and the spurns That patient merit of th' unworthy takes, When he himself might his quietus make With a bare bodkin? Who would these fardels bear, To grunt and sweat under a weary life, But that the dread of something after death- The undiscover'd country, from whose bourn No traveller returns- puzzles the will, And makes us rather bear those ills we have Than fly to others that we know not of? Thus conscience does make cowards of us all, And thus the native hue of resolution Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought, And enterprises of great pith and moment With this regard their currents turn awry And lose the name of action.- Soft you now! The fair Ophelia!- Nymph, in thy orisons Be all my sins rememb'red. Ophelia. Good my lord, (C,P spy) O: Yo hammy take these love letters im sick of you acting all mad. Can’t you see that your tearing us apart. H: I never wrote you any love letters! O: My honour’d lord, you know right well you did; And with them words of so sweet breath composed AS made the things more rich. Their perfume lost, Take these again; for to the noble mind Rich gifts wax poor when givers prove unkind. H: I never loved you Ophelia, your always acting so crazy! Get thee to a nunnery! (H and O leave, P and C enter) C: Yo I think hammy has gone crazy he should totally be sent to england! Get that freak away from me P: Nah I think he has gone crazy because of love. Do you see how much he loves Ophelia he is mad indeed. We should spy on him and Gertrude to find out once and for all the real meaning of hammys craziness Scene II Enter hamlet and Players H: perform this play as I taught you. Player 1: I’ll perform this as you asked (Player 1 leaves) (P, R&G, enters) Polonius: what are the moves for tonight Hamlet: im def trynna hit up that play. Is Claudius finna join? G: the lady doth protest too much methinks H: oh, but she’ll keep her word C: what’s this play about? H: it’s about a murdered and since we have clean souls, it won’t be offensive to us H: the murderer poisoned him in the garden in order to get the crown and the love of his wife O: Claudius, where are you going? G: are you okay? P: stop this play! C: this is nonsense. Get me out of here (Hamlet and Horatio) Hamlet: I guess that is proof that Claudius killed my dad Horatio: I agree with you. It’s very obvious now H: HA Yes I knew it this is cause for a celebration R and G enter abruptly R&G: Hamlet, Claudius is sick of you, he has gotten very angry at your play H: He has? R &G: Indeed and your mother has sent us to see you she wants to speak with you H: oh she does, well you know Im a little crazy I don’t know if she wants to speak with me. R&G: Hamlet everyone knows you’ve been acting crazy, can you at least tell us whats up? H: Well, look how you play me—as if you knew exactly where to put your fingers, to blow the mystery out of me, playing all the octaves of my range—and yet you can’t even produce music from this little instrument? My God, do you think I’m easier to manipulate than a pipe? You can push my buttons, but you can’t play me for a fool. R&G: Hamlet you’re so frustrating Polonious enters P: Hamlet your mother requests to speak with you right now! Hamlet: Do you see that could up there? P: Hamlet stop fooling around and go see your mother H: I will soon enough Everyone leaves H: This is the time of night when witches come out, when graveyards yawn open and the stench of hell seeps out. I could drink hot blood and do such terrible deeds that people would tremble even in the daylight. But I’ve got to go see my mother.—Oh, heart, don’t grow weak, like NERO. Nero was a Roman emperor known for his extreme cruelty. Nero Let me be cruel, but not inhuman. I’ll speak as sharp as a dagger to her, but I won’t use one on her. And so, my words and thoughts will be at odds. Enter Claudius R&G C: Aight hommies this is getting out of control Hamlet has gone off the deep end we have to send him to England right away or he might do something crazy. Will you too go with him and keep an eye on him ya know make sure he doesent get into “trouble” R&G: Yea we’ll keep an eye on him C: Okay but watch out hes acting crazy, he might even try to hurt you. C: Do what you want polonious but be careful he is crazy indeed Exit Polonious claudius goes to pray C: Dear god help me now, I am praying but it doesent feel like it! Why god why did I have to kill him it has brought me more sorrow then good! My words fly up toward heaven, but my thoughts stay down here on earth. Words without thoughts behind them will never make it to heaven Hamlet watches from afar H: Should I kill him now? But he is preying, does that mean he will go to heaven? If he goes to heaven all my work my revenge my act its worthless. No I cant risk it, ill to talk to my mother! Hamlet storms off to see Gertrude Switch to Gertrude and polonious talking P: yo yo yo Queen! Hamlet is on his way I must hide and find out the true cause of his madness! G: okay okay Polonius but this is your last shot! Quick now hide I hear him coming! H: Mom! What do you want! G: Hamlet why do you always have to be so mean to your father! H: Father! The only one who has insulted my father is you mother! With your inscestuous ways G: *gasps* Hamlet I can’t believe you would say that to me! H: Never mind that mother if you don’t believe me look into Claudius’s eyes and you’ll see that he killed him, He is the crazy one! Hamlet picks up polonious body H: Now I must go hide this body, whatever you do Gertrude do not sleep with the King! Exit hamlet exit G End play |
Our Interpretation In act 3 there are many things left up for the reader to interpret, this is our take on hamlet and his actions. One of the big things we interoperated in this act is hamlets craziness. We believe that even though he is acting crazy he is truly becoming crazy. This is very prominent in our final scene with hamlet killing Polonius, we interpret that Hamlet is very narcissistic and could care less about what happens to Polonius, for all knows and cares about Polonius is just another worthless fool getting in his way much like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are. Another key interpretation is that we believe the queen is clueless and believes that hamlet is crazy and she is just naïve. We show this in the last seen as well by her freaking out when Hamlet kills Polonius and talks to the ghost, this is where she makes up her mind and believe Hamlet is crazy and that Claudius truly loves her and Hamlet is doing this just out of spite.
Another key interpretation that we make is when Hamlet is at the play, we interpret this scene to be very quiet and Hamlet goes and talks to each person individually without drawing much attention. We believe that Hamlet is just trying to mess with everyone individually and trying to make people believe that he is crazy when he is indeed going crazy. Another thing we interpret is spying, we believe that Hamlet is aware of the spying, when he calls out Rosencrantz and Guildenstern he pretty much tells that that they cannot fool him, he knows all, he knows they are helping Claudius and that they are tools just like everyone else. Hamlet always is acting crazy because he knows he’s being spied on and soon that act will turn into actual craziness. He believes that everyone is out to get him and that the only way to be truly safe is to actually be crazy. |
